About Sue Bird
Suzanne Brigit Bird, born October 16, 1980, is an American former professional basketball player who played her entire Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) career with the Seattle Storm. Drafted first overall in the 2002 WNBA draft, she is regarded as one of the greatest players in league history. Bird has won four WNBA championships with the Storm, in 2004, 2010, 2018, and 2020, and has been selected to thirteen WNBA All-Star teams and eight All-WNBA teams. She was voted by fans as one of the league's Top 15 Players of All Time in 2011, included in the WNBA Top 20@20 in 2016 as one of the league's top 20 players of all time, and recognized among the top 25 players of all time in 2021. Bird was also a prominent international competitor, earning five Olympic gold medals across her career;in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020;and winning four FIBA World Cups. Her professional career extended beyond the WNBA to ten seasons in the Russian Premier League, where she played for Dynamo Moscow, Spartak Moscow Region, and UMMC Ekaterinburg, capturing multiple league and EuroLeague championships. As a college athlete at the University of Connecticut, Bird earned numerous accolades, including the Wade Trophy and Naismith Award, and helped her team secure two NCAA Championships. Recognized for her outstanding contributions to basketball, she was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, the NYC Basketball Hall of Fame, and the FIBA Hall of Fame. She retired from professional play after the 2022 WNBA season and is currently a WNBA analyst for NBC.
