Stephen Merchant: podcast appearances and interviews

Stephen James Merchant, born on 24 November 1974, is an English comedian, writer, director, and actor. He is known for his work on British television, including being a co-writer and co-director of the sitcom The Office from 2001 to 2003. Merchant also co-wrote, co-directed, and co-starred in the series Extras and Life's Too Short alongside Ricky Gervais. He hosted The Ricky Gervais Show in various formats including radio, podcast, audiobook, and television, with the radio version winning a bronze Sony Award. As a voice actor, he provided the voice of Wheatley in the video game Portal 2 and Lego Dimensions. Merchant contributed to the development of the travel documentary series An Idiot Abroad and co-created the series Lip Sync Battle. His stand-up comedy led to his role in the HBO series Hello Ladies, based on his stand-up material. He has appeared in theater productions, notably Richard Bean's The Mentalists at London's Wyndham's Theatre in 2015. Merchant wrote and directed the film Fighting with My Family in 2019 and worked on the comedy crime series The Outlaws, which he also co-wrote, co-produced, and co-directed. His film appearances include roles in Logan, Jojo Rabbit, and Four Lives. Throughout his career, Merchant has received numerous awards and honors, including a Peabody Award, Golden Globe Awards, BAFTA Awards, a Primetime Emmy, British Comedy Awards, and the Rose d'Or.
