Shelley Duvall: podcast appearances and interviews

Shelley Alexis Duvall (July 7, 1949 – July 11, 2024) was an American actress and producer known for her distinctive screen presence and portrayals of eccentric characters. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and raised in Houston, Texas. Duvall gained early recognition in her career through collaborations with filmmaker Robert Altman during the 1970s. Her performances in Altman's films such as Brewster McCloud, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Thieves Like Us, Nashville, and 3 Women earned her significant critical acclaim. She received a Cannes Award and a Peabody Award, along with nominations for a BAFTA Award and two Primetime Emmy Awards. Her role as Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining in 1980 brought her further fame and was notable for the attention it received. Duvall also starred as Olive Oyl in Altman’s Popeye and appeared in films including Time Bandits, Frankenweenie, and Roxanne. In addition to her acting career, she ventured into children's programming, founding production companies and creating series such as Faerie Tale Theatre, Tall Tales & Legends, and Shelley Duvall's Bedtime Stories. She received Emmy nominations for her work on children's television. Duvall’s career slowed in the 1990s, and she later announced an indefinite hiatus from acting after her roles in Manna from Heaven and other projects. She made a brief return to film in 2023 with The Forest Hills, which became her final role. Duvall passed away due to complications of diabetes on July 11, 2024.
