Sanya Richards-Ross is a retired American track and field athlete known for her achievements in the 400-meter sprint. She competed internationally for the United States and is a four-time Olympic gold medalist. Richards-Ross won the Olympic gold in 2012, becoming the second American woman to win the 400 meters at the Games, and was the first American woman to earn multiple global 400-meter titles. She also secured a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics and a silver medal at the 2005 World Championships. Throughout her career, she was a six-time U.S. national champion and ranked number one in the world from 2005 to 2009 and again in 2012. She set the American record in 2006 with a time of 48.70 seconds and was named the IAAF Female World Athlete of the Year in 2006 and 2009. Richards-Ross holds the record for the most sub-50 second sprints in history, achieving this feat 49 times. Her success extends to relays, where she was a key contributor for the United States team that won three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 4 × 400 meters relay and five relay medals overall from World Championships.
