George Roger Waters is an English singer-songwriter, musician, and political activist born on September 6, 1943. He co-founded the rock band Pink Floyd in 1965, serving as the bassist. After the departure of Syd Barrett in 1968, Waters became the band’s principal lyricist, co-lead vocalist, and conceptual leader until his exit in 1985. Pink Floyd achieved international acclaim with a series of influential concept albums including The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, and The Final Cut. By the early 1980s, the band had become one of the most successful groups in popular music. Waters left the band amid creative differences and engaged in a legal dispute over the use of the band's name and material, which was settled out of court in 1987. His solo career includes studio albums such as The Pros and the Cons of Hitch Hiking, Radio K.A.O.S., Amused to Death, and Is This the Life We Really Want. In 2005, he released Ça Ira, an opera about the French Revolution. Waters has staged major concerts including The Wall – Live in Berlin in 1990, which drew an audience of 450,000. He was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Since 1999, Waters has toured extensively as a solo artist, performing acclaimed shows linked to his iconic albums. His work often incorporates political themes, and he is known for supporting socialism and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel, as well as advocating for Palestinian rights. His outspoken views have sometimes led to bans and sanctions across various entities worldwide.
