Robert John Downey Jr. is an American actor and producer born on April 4, 1965. His films as a leading actor have grossed over 14.3 billion dollars worldwide, establishing him as one of the highest-grossing actors of all time. Downey has received numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a Daytime Emmy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and two British Academy Film Awards. He began acting at a young age, making his debut at the age of five in his father Robert Downey Sr.'s film Pound. He gained early prominence through teen films such as Weird Science and Less Than Zero. His portrayal of Charlie Chaplin in the biopic Chaplin earned him the BAFTA Award for Best Actor and an Academy Award nomination. After struggles with substance abuse resulting in multiple arrests, Downey entered rehabilitation and has been sober since 2003.
