Thomas Jacob Black, born on August 28, 1969, is an American actor, comedian, singer, and musician. He has played leading roles in family and comedy films and has contributed voice work to animated features. His achievements include an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, and nominations for two Critics' Choice Awards and three Golden Globe Awards. In 2018, Black received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He began acting at age 13 and appeared in early films such as Dead Man Walking, The Cable Guy, Mars Attacks!, and Enemy of the State. His breakthrough came with the romantic comedy High Fidelity in 2000, which was followed by notable roles in Shallow Hal and Orange County. He established himself as a leading man with the musical comedy School of Rock in 2003, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Black continued to star in various films including King Kong, The Holiday, Nacho Libre, and Tropic Thunder. In 2008, he started voicing Po in the Kung Fu Panda franchise. He was critically acclaimed for portraying Bernie Tiede in the biographical thriller Bernie in 2011, receiving several Best Actor award nominations. His career experienced fluctuations but saw a resurgence through roles in Goosebumps, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, The House with a Clock in Its Walls, Jumanji: The Next Level, and A Minecraft Movie.
