Robert David Keane is an Irish professional football coach and former player. Born on July 8, 1980, he is recognized as one of Ireland's greatest footballers. Keane played as a striker and served as captain of the Republic of Ireland from March 2006 until his international retirement in August 2016. He is the most capped player and top goalscorer for Ireland, with a record 146 international caps and 68 goals. Keane's club career began at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he scored twice on his first-team debut at age 17 and became the club's leading goalscorer the following season. Between 1999 and 2002, he transferred frequently, with notable but unexceptional spells at Inter Milan and Leeds United. Keane spent a significant period at Tottenham Hotspur from 2002 onwards, making 306 appearances and scoring 122 goals across all competitions. The 2007–08 season marked the peak of his club career, setting a personal record of 23 goals and winning the League Cup. He also played for Liverpool, Celtic, West Ham United, LA Galaxy, Aston Villa, and briefly for Indian club ATK. Over his career, Keane scored 126 Premier League goals, ranking 17th all-time. His international performance includes participating in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where Ireland reached the last 16, and Euro tournaments in 2012 and 2016. Post-retirement in November 2018, Keane transitioned into coaching, initially serving as assistant manager for the Ireland senior team and Middlesbrough.
