Richard Tomlinson: podcast appearances and interviews

Richard John Charles Tomlinson, born on 13 January 1963, is the chief investment officer at Local Pensions Partnership Investments. He is a former officer of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). During his time with MI6, he was involved in events that led to his detention under the Official Secrets Act 1989 after providing a synopsis of a proposed book detailing his career to an Australian publisher. He served six months of a twelve-month sentence before being paroled and subsequently fled Britain. His book, titled The Big Breach, was published in 2001 and included claims about MI6 operations, such as the employment of a mole in the German Bundesbank and the existence of a licence to kill, the latter later confirmed by MI6's head at a public hearing. Tomlinson also assisted Mohamed al-Fayed in investigating the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and Dodi Fayed, alleging that MI6 had considered assassinating Slobodan Milošević and suggesting that Diana and Dodi might have been killed by similar methods. MI6 acknowledged that plans of such a nature had been drafted but were rejected by management. In 2009, MI6 apologized for its treatment of Tomlinson, dropped all charges, and unfreezed royalties on his book. Since 2000, staff at MI6 have been permitted to pursue employment tribunals, and since 2008, they have been able to unionize.
