Quinta Brunson, born on December 21, 1989, is an American actress, comedian, writer, and producer. She is best known for creating, executive producing, and co-writing the ABC comedy series Abbott Elementary, which she also stars in as second-grade teacher Janine Teagues. Brunson gained initial recognition in 2014 through her self-produced Instagram series Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date and subsequently produced and acted in videos for BuzzFeed Video. She developed two streaming series with BuzzFeed Motion Pictures, further establishing her presence in digital media. Brunson has received multiple Emmy nominations, becoming the first Black woman to be nominated three times in the comedy category at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, where she won for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. At the 75th ceremony, she made history as the first Black woman in over four decades to win the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Her work on Abbott Elementary earned her a 2022 Peabody Award and recognition on the Time 100 Most Influential People of 2022 list. Brunson's acting credits include roles in series such as iZombie, Single Parents, and Miracle Workers. She has provided voice work for Lazor Wulf, Magical Girl Friendship Squad, The Simpsons, Zootopia 2, and Big Mouth. She also starred in the first season of HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Show, contributing to her diverse career in comedy and television.
