About David Nutt
David John Nutt, born on 16 April 1951, is a neuropsychopharmacologist specializing in the study of drugs that impact the brain and related conditions such as addiction, anxiety, and sleep. He is a professor of neuropsychopharmacology at Imperial College London, where he serves as the Edmond J. Safra chair and directs the Neuropsychopharmacology Unit within the Division of Brain Sciences. Nutt's research focuses on understanding the effects of various substances on brain function and behavior. He founded Drug Science, a non-profit organization established in 2010 to provide independent, evidence-based information on drugs; he currently serves as its chairman. In 2019, he co-founded GABAlabs and its subsidiary SENTIA Spirits, which are involved in researching and marketing alternatives to alcohol. Previously, Nutt was a professor at the University of Bristol and led their Psychopharmacology Unit until 2009. His expertise has led him to serve on the Committee on Safety of Medicines and to hold the position of President of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology.
