Paul Tazewell: podcast appearances and interviews

Paul Tazewell is an American costume designer for theatre, dance, film, opera, and television. He trained at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts and began his career on Broadway. His first notable work as a costume designer was for the production Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk in 1996. Tazewell is known for his work on Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton, for which he received the Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical in 2016. He has earned multiple awards throughout his career, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award. Tazewell's work on Steven Spielberg's West Side Story garnered him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design, making him the first African American male to be nominated in that category. He won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design at the 97th Academy Awards for his work on Wicked in 2024. His Tony Award nominations also include productions such as The Color Purple, In the Heights, Memphis, A Streetcar Named Desire, Ain't Too Proud, MJ, Suffs, and Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. An exhibition showcasing his work is scheduled for November 2025 at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois, featuring artifacts from his career including costumes from Wicked, West Side Story, and Hamilton.
