Michael Vincent Lawler, born on September 9, 1986, is a U.S. representative for New York's 17th congressional district, a position he has held since 2023. His district encompasses all of Rockland County and Putnam County, most of Northern Westchester County, and parts of southern Dutchess County. Prior to his congressional service, Lawler represented the 97th district in the New York State Assembly from 2021 to 2022. He is affiliated with the Republican Party and was first elected to Congress in 2022, defeating Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair Sean Patrick Maloney. He was re-elected in 2024, defeating former congressman Mondaire Jones, marking one of three Republican wins in districts also won by Kamala Harris that year. Lawler is recognized as a moderate Republican; he is a member of the Climate Solutions Caucus and the Republican Governance Group.
