Mike Gatto: podcast appearances and interviews

Michael Anthony Gatto, born October 19, 1974, is an American author, attorney, and former member of the California State Assembly. He served in the Assembly from 2010 to 2016 as a member of the Democratic Party. Data analyses of his voting records conducted by the Sacramento Bee found that Gatto was among the most independent state lawmakers. During his time in office, he was elected through a special election and held several leadership positions, including Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore and chairman of multiple committees, such as the Appropriations, Consumer Protection & Privacy, and Utilities & Commerce Committees. Gatto has authored several notable pieces of legislation. He is perhaps best known for authoring and facilitating the passage of California’s first Rainy Day Fund, a constitutional amendment designed to require the state to save money during periods of fiscal surplus, a policy later adopted by Governor Jerry Brown. In 2019, Gatto authored a statewide ballot initiative aimed at comprehensively addressing California’s homelessness crisis. This initiative's principles were later adopted by Governor Gavin Newsom in March 2022. In addition to his legislative work, Gatto is recognized for his contributions to legal and public policy discussions surrounding economic and social issues in California.
