Fiona Ma: podcast appearances and interviews

Fiona Ma, born on March 4, 1966, is an American politician and accountant who has served as the 34th state treasurer of California since January 7, 2019. She has held various public offices, including membership on the California Board of Equalization from 2015 to 2019, time in the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2012, and service on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 2002 to 2006. As a member of the Democratic Party, Ma was notably the first Asian American woman to serve as California Assembly Speaker pro Tempore, the second highest-ranking position in the Assembly. She was also appointed Chairperson of the California Board of Equalization in 2016, during which she ordered three external audits of the agency. In 2021, Ma faced a lawsuit filed by a former employee alleging sexual harassment and racial discrimination; the case was settled in 2024 for 350,000 dollars by the state of California. In addition to her elected roles, Ma announced her candidacy for the 2026 California gubernatorial election in March 2019, later shifting her focus to run for the Lieutenant Governor's office in the same election cycle, announced in March 2023.
