Mika Yamamoto was a Japanese video and photojournalist known for her work covering international affairs. She was a correspondent for the news agency Japan Press and was recognized for her reporting with the Vaughn-Uyeda Memorial Prize from the Japanese Newspaper Publishers and Editors Association in 2004. Yamamoto was notably the first Japanese and the fourth foreign journalist to be killed while covering the Syrian Civil War in Aleppo, Syria, in August 2012.
