Michael Braverman Goodman Froman is an American lawyer and the current president of the Council on Foreign Relations. He has held high-level government positions, including serving as the United States Trade Representative from 2013 to 2017. During his tenure, he was responsible for representing the United States in trade negotiations and policy discussions. Froman also served as Assistant to the President of the United States and Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs. In this role, he was a joint appointee at the National Security Council and the National Economic Council. He acted as the United States sherpa to the G7, G8, and G20 summits of economic powers. His appointment as the U.S. trade representative was announced on May 2, 2013, by President Barack Obama, and he was confirmed on June 19, 2013.
