Michael Fassbender is a German-Irish actor, racing driver, and producer born on April 2, 1977. He studied at the Drama Centre London and made his feature film debut in 2006 with the movie 300. Fassbender's early career includes roles in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers and the Sky One fantasy drama Hex. He gained prominence portraying Bobby Sands in the film Hunger in 2008 and has since appeared in numerous notable films. His work includes roles in Fish Tank and Inglourious Basterds in 2009, Jane Eyre and A Dangerous Method in 2011, and leading performances in The Counselor, Frank, and Macbeth. Fassbender is well known for his portrayal of Erik Lehnsherr, also known as Magneto, in the X-Men film series from 2011 to 2019. He also played David 8/Walter One in two installments of the Alien film series between 2012 and 2017. His performance as a sex addict in Steve McQueen's Shame earned him the Volpi Cup for Best Actor. He received Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Edwin Epps in 12 Years a Slave and for Best Actor as Steve Jobs in the biographical drama of the same name. After a four-year hiatus from acting beginning in 2019, Fassbender pursued a career in auto racing, competing for Proton Competition in the European Le Mans Series in 2023. He returned to acting with the thrillers The Killer and Black Bag and stars in the spy series The Agency: Central Intelligence. Fassbender has been married to Swedish actress Alicia Vikander since 2017, and they have two sons.
