Max Gawn, born on 30 December 1991, is a professional Australian rules footballer who plays for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League. Standing at 209 centimeters and weighing 111 kilograms, he is a ruckman known for his ability to contribute both in the ruck and in the forward line. Gawn initially engaged in basketball and rugby union during his youth before pursuing a career in Australian rules football; he was drafted to Melbourne with the thirty-fourth selection in the 2009 AFL draft. He made his debut in the 2011 AFL season, but his early years were impacted by knee and hamstring injuries. In 2015, he became Melbourne's leading ruckman, a role that earned him a place in the 2016 All-Australian team. Gawn was appointed as Melbourne's captain at the start of the 2020 AFL season. Under his leadership, the club achieved its first premiership since 1964 in 2021. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his exceptional performances, being named an All-Australian eight times.
