Matt Gallagher: podcast appearances and interviews

Matt Gallagher is the Director of Business Development for the Health Division in Ontario at Suncatcher Brewing. He is also an American author, veteran of the Iraq War, and war correspondent. Gallagher gained prominence with his war memoir Kaboom, published in 2010, which recounts the experiences of his scout platoon during the Iraq War. His writing primarily focuses on contemporary war fiction and non-fiction. Gallagher's debut novel Youngblood, published in February 2016, received widespread critical acclaim and was featured in major publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Esquire, The Wall Street Journal, and Vogue. It was also a finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for fiction. In addition to his literary achievements, Gallagher was interviewed by General (Retired) David H. Petraeus in September 2016 at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan. His journalistic work includes covering the Russian invasion of Ukraine, first as a volunteer and later as a journalist in 2022. His February 2024 novel, Daybreak, is inspired by his experiences in Ukraine and follows an American military veteran seeking a former love amid wartime chaos. Publishers Weekly described the novel as a harrowing depiction of life in a besieged Ukraine, comparing it to works by Hemingway and the film Casablanca.
