Maria Owings Shriver is an American writer and journalist known for her work in broadcast journalism and authorial pursuits. She has contributed to various news organizations, beginning her career at KYW-TV and briefly anchoring the CBS Morning News before joining NBC News in 1986. During her time at NBC, she anchored weekend editions of the Today show and the NBC Nightly News and served as a correspondent for Dateline NBC, with a focus on politics. Her reporting has earned her significant recognition, including a Peabody Award in 1998 and an Emmy as a co-anchor for NBC's coverage of the 1988 Summer Olympics. She is a member of both the Shriver and Kennedy families and served as the First Lady of California.
