Malcolm-Jamal Warner was an American actor, musician, and poet born on August 18, 1970. He gained recognition for his role as Theodore Huxtable on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show, which aired from 1984 to 1992. This performance earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the 38th Primetime Emmy Awards. Warner also portrayed Malcolm McGee on the sitcom Malcolm & Eddie from 1996 to 2000 and appeared as Dr. Alex Reed in the sitcom Reed Between the Lines during 2011 and 2015. His other notable roles include Julius Rowe in the series Suits from 2016 to 2017 and Dr. AJ Austin in the medical drama The Resident from 2018 to 2023. In addition to his acting career, Warner was a recognized musician and poet. Notably, he received a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance in 2015 for the song Jesus Children, performed with the Robert Glasper Experiment and Lalah Hathaway. Warner passed away on July 20, 2025, at the age of 54, from drowning in the ocean off Limón Province, Costa Rica, following a strong current.
