About Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist for girls' education and women's empowerment. She is recognized as the youngest Nobel Peace Laureate, receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 at age 17. Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997, into a Yousafzai Pashtun family in Swat and is the daughter of the education activist Ziauddin Yousafzai. Her advocacy focuses on promoting education for women and children, particularly in her native district where the Pakistani Taliban had at times banned girls from attending school. Her activism began early; in 2009, at age 11, she wrote a blog for BBC Urdu detailing life under Taliban occupation. Her vocal support for education gained international visibility, and she was nominated for the International Children's Peace Prize by Desmond Tutu. In 2012, Yousafzai survived an assassination attempt by a Taliban gunman. The attack drew worldwide condemnation and heightened her prominence as an advocate. Following her recovery, she continued to campaign for education rights, co-founding the Malala Fund and authoring the bestseller I Am Malala. Her efforts have earned numerous awards, including the Sakharov Prize and honorary Canadian citizenship. She addressed the House of Commons of Canada at a young age and has been recognized on multiple influential lists such as Forbes 30 Under 30 and Time magazine's most influential people globally. Yousafzai completed secondary education at Edgbaston High School in Birmingham and studied at Oxford University. Her activism and advocacy efforts have established her as a prominent human rights figure and a symbol of resilience in the global movement for girls' education.
