Luke Schenn, born on November 2, 1989, is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League. He played junior hockey with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League, where he was named to the League's Second All-Star Team in his final season. Schenn was a highly regarded prospect before the 2008 NHL entry draft, being selected fifth overall in the first round by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He began his NHL career in the 2008–09 season and played with the Maple Leafs until he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers following the 2011–12 season. During his rookie year, he earned a spot on the NHL's All-Rookie Team. Schenn has won the Stanley Cup twice with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021. Internationally, he has represented Canada, securing a gold medal at the 2008 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and a silver medal at the 2009 World Ice Hockey Championships. Known as a stay-at-home defenceman, Schenn's primary role involves preventing goals rather than scoring. His physical style of play makes him a frequent leader in hits, and he holds the NHL record for the most hits by a defenceman. Off the ice, he established the charity 'Luke's Troops,' which helps military families attend Toronto Maple Leafs home games. His younger brother Brayden was also drafted fifth overall in 2009 and was traded to the New York Islanders in March 2026.
