Lou Diamond Phillips, born Louis Diamond Phillips on February 17, 1962, is an American actor, director, and writer. His breakthrough role was portraying Ritchie Valens in the biographical drama film La Bamba in 1987. He received critical recognition for his performance as Angel David Guzman in Stand and Deliver in 1988, earning a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture and winning an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male.
