Greg Johnson: podcast appearances and interviews

Greg Johnson is a professor in the department of religious studies at UC Santa Barbara and is affiliated with Comfort Keepers of Johns Creek. He is an American author and serves as the lead pastor of Memorial Presbyterian Church in St. Louis. Johnson is notable for being one of the first publicly gay-identified pastors of a non-affirming conservative evangelical church in the United States. Raised in a secular family in Washington D.C., he experienced a transition from atheism to Christianity during his time as a student at the University of Virginia. Johnson openly discusses his commitment to Christian celibacy as a way to reconcile his sexuality with his faith. He was ordained in 2003 within the conservative Presbyterian Church in America, with his doctoral research exploring the historical and theological development of the quiet time in Protestant devotional practice. Johnson has contributed writings to publications such as USA Today and Christianity Today and has authored several books. Among his works is a critical history of the ex-gay movement, endorsed by prominent Christian leader Tim Keller. His book, Still Time to Care: What We Can Learn from the Church's Failed Attempt to Cure Homosexuality, received the 2023 Christian Book Award in the category of Faith and Culture.
