Lisa LaTrelle Blunt Rochester is an American politician serving as the United States senator from Delaware since 2025. She previously served as the United States representative for Delaware's at-large congressional district from 2017 to 2025. As a member of the Democratic Party, she is the first woman and the first African American to represent Delaware in both chambers of Congress. Blunt Rochester began her political career working for Tom Carper, initially in the House of Representatives, and later during his tenure as governor of Delaware. She was appointed deputy secretary of Delaware's Department of Health and Social Services in 1993 and later served as secretary of the Department of Labor in 1998. She was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016 and was a campaign co-chair for Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election. Following Carper's announcement not to seek reelection to the Senate in 2024, Blunt Rochester announced her candidacy with his support, securing her position in the general election after unopposed victory in the Democratic primary.
