Elissa Blair Slotkin is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party. She has served as the junior United States senator from Michigan since 2025, having been elected in 2024 in a close race against Republican nominee Mike Rogers. Slotkin previously represented Michigan's 8th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2019 to 2025. Before her election to Congress, she held roles within the Department of Defense and the Central Intelligence Agency, ultimately serving as the acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs. Her career in national security and defense includes work as a CIA analyst and DoD official. Slotkin's election to the Senate marked her as the second female senator from Michigan, following Debbie Stabenow. She is expected to become Michigan's senior senator when Senator Gary Peters retires in 2027.
