Durk Devontay Banks, known professionally as Lil Durk, is an American rapper affiliated with the record label OTF. Recognized as a pioneer of the Chicago-based hip-hop subgenre drill music, he is often regarded as the most commercially successful artist within the genre. Lil Durk first gained local recognition through his Signed to the Streets mixtape series released between 2013 and 2014, which led to a contract with Def Jam Recordings. Under Def Jam, he released his debut studio album Remember My Name in 2015 followed by Lil Durk 2X in 2016. After parting ways with Def Jam in 2018, he self-released the mixtape Just Cause Y'all Waited and subsequently signed with Alamo Records later that year. His 2020 single Viral Moment marked his first Billboard Hot 100 entry as a lead artist, signaling a significant breakthrough. He also charted with singles including 3 Headed Goat Backdoor and The Voice as well as notable guest appearances on Drake's Laugh Now Cry Later and Pooh Shiesty’s Back in Blood. His sixth album The Voice released in 2020 peaked at number two on the Billboard 200. In 2021, his collaborative album with Lil Baby titled The Voice of the Heroes debuted atop the chart. His seventh album 7220 was also number one. Albums Almost Healed and Deep Thoughts released in 2023 and 2025 respectively both reached number three on the Billboard 200, with Almost Healed featuring the Grammy-winning single All My Life. Banks has received a Grammy Award from four nominations and is known for founding the Chicago-based collective and record label Only the Family. In October 2024, he was arrested on charges related to conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.
