Kleber de Mendonça Vasconcellos Filho is a Brazilian film director, screenwriter, and producer born on 22 November 1968. He began his career as a movie critic before transitioning to filmmaking in 2002, initially working on short films and documentaries. His narrative feature debut, Neighboring Sounds, released in 2012, was recognized by The New York Times as one of the best films of the year. Mendonça Filho continued to gain international acclaim with subsequent films such as Aquarius in 2016 and Bacurau in 2019. Both films were nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, with Bacurau receiving the Jury Prize at Cannes.
