About Julian Brave Noisecat
Julian Brave Noisecat is an author, filmmaker, and activist associated with the Canim Lake Band Tsq̓éscen of the Líl̓wat Nation in British Columbia, Canada. As an enrolled member of the Secwepemc (Shuswap) Nation, he advocates on issues related to climate justice and Indigenous rights across North America. His work includes the memoir We Survived the Night, and he has gained recognition through his filmmaking and public activism. Noisecat's debut documentary Sugarcane, directed with Emily Kassie, received the Directing Award at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar in 2025. This achievement marked a significant milestone as he became the first Indigenous filmmaker from North America to be nominated for an Academy Award.
