Jon Stewart, born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz on November 28, 1962, is an American comedian, writer, producer, director, political commentator, actor, and television host. He gained prominence as the host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central, a position he held from 1999 to 2015 and resumed part-time in 2024. Stewart also hosted The Problem with Jon Stewart on Apple TV+ from 2021 to 2023. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards including 24 Primetime Emmy Awards, 2 Grammy Awards, and 5 Peabody Awards. He was honored with the Bronze Medallion in 2019 and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2022. Stewart's career began in stand-up comedy before transitioning into television, where he hosted shows such as Short Attention Span Theater, You Wrote It, You Watch It, and The Jon Stewart Show. He appeared in films including Big Daddy and Death to Smoochy. As the host of The Daily Show, he contributed as a writer and co-executive producer, leading the program to critical acclaim and numerous awards. Stewart also co-headlined the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear with Stephen Colbert in 2010 and managed the Colbert Super PAC campaign in 2012. After leaving The Daily Show, Stewart focused on advocacy work, notably championing the health benefits of 9/11 first responders and war veterans, helping to secure legislation such as the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act and the Honoring our PACT Act of 2022.
