John Romero: podcast appearances and interviews

Alfonso John Romero, born on October 28, 1967, is an American and Irish video game developer recognized for his significant contributions to the gaming industry. He co-founded id Software and played a key role in designing several influential early games, including Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Doom II, Hexen, and Quake. Alongside programming techniques developed by programmer John Carmack, Romero's designs helped popularize the first-person shooter genre and introduced the term 'deathmatch' to describe multiplayer gameplay. Following disputes with Carmack, Romero was dismissed from id Software in 1996 and subsequently co-founded Ion Storm, where he directed the game Daikatana. The game was a critical and commercial failure, leading to Romero's departure from Ion Storm in 2001. Later that year, he co-founded Monkeystone Games with Tom Hall, focusing on mobile device games. In 2003, Romero joined Midway Games as project lead for Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows, which was released in 2005 shortly after he left the company. He founded Gazillion Entertainment in 2005 and continued to work on new projects. In 2016, Romero and Adrian Carmack announced a new first-person shooter titled Blackroom, but it was ultimately cancelled after failing to secure a publisher.
