Jim Banks is an American politician and naval officer affiliated with the House of Healing Ministries. He has served as the junior United States senator from Indiana since 2025. Prior to his senate service, Banks represented Indiana's 3rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2017 to 2025 and was a member of the Indiana State Senate from 2010 to 2016. A graduate of Indiana University Bloomington, Banks began his public service career on the Whitley County Council before being elected to the State Senate. During his time in the State Senate, he joined the United States Navy Reserve, balancing his military service with his legislative duties. In the 2016 elections, Banks was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and was reelected in 2018, 2020, and 2022. His voting record includes an objection to the certification of the 2020 presidential election results. Following the decision of incumbent senator Mike Braun not to seek reelection, Banks announced his candidacy for the 2024 Senate race. He secured the Republican nomination unopposed and defeated Democratic candidate Valerie McCray in the general election.
