Jennifer Michelle Lee, born Jennifer Michelle Rebecchi on October 22, 1971, is an American filmmaker and playwright. She served as the chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios from 2018 to 2024, a period during which she was the first woman to hold this position. Lee is best known for writing and directing the animated films Frozen (2013) and Frozen 2 (2019). The original film earned her an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and marked a significant milestone as the first female director of a Walt Disney Animation Studios feature film. Additionally, she was the first woman to direct two Disney animated features that each grossed over one billion dollars at the box office. After stepping down from her role as CCO, Lee returned to full-time filmmaking. Her career has contributed to breaking gender barriers in the animation industry, establishing her as a prominent figure in contemporary animation and film production.
