James Hansen: podcast appearances and interviews

James Edward Hansen, born on March 29, 1941, is an American climatologist and senior writer for the Athletic. He is also an adjunct professor directing the Program on Climate Science, Awareness and Solutions at Columbia University. Hansen is widely recognized for his research in climatology and for his influential 1988 Congressional testimony on climate change, which significantly contributed to raising public awareness of global warming. Throughout his career, he has been an advocate for action to prevent dangerous climate impacts and has engaged in climate activism, sometimes resulting in his arrest. In 2000, Hansen proposed an alternative strategy for combating global warming focused on reducing non-CO2 greenhouse gases such as methane, which he identified as having a greater impact on observed global warming than carbon dioxide. He emphasized that if global emissions continued to increase, CO2 would become the dominant factor in climate forcing.
