James Fallows: podcast appearances and interviews

James Mackenzie Fallows, born on August 2, 1949, is an American writer and journalist. He has contributed to a wide range of publications including The Atlantic, Slate, The New York Times Magazine, The New York Review of Books, The New Yorker, and The American Prospect. Fallows served as a former editor of U.S. News & World Report and was notably the youngest person to hold the position of chief speechwriter for President Jimmy Carter, serving in that role for two years. He has also been involved in academia as a visiting professor at various universities in the United States and China. Additionally, Fallows held the Chair in U.S. Media at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney. An accomplished author, he has written eleven books covering topics such as defense, media, and international affairs. His book National Defense, published in 1981, received the 1983 National Book Award. Other titles include Looking at the Sun, Breaking the News, Blind into Baghdad, Postcards from Tomorrow Square, China Airborne, and the national best-seller Our Towns, which was co-written with his wife Deborah Fallows. Our Towns was also adapted into an HBO documentary in 2021. Throughout his career, Fallows has been recognized for his contributions to journalism and literature, and his work often explores issues related to American society and international affairs.
