About Ibram X Kendi
Ibram Xolani Kendi, born Ibram Henry Rogers on August 13, 1982, is an American author, professor, anti-racism activist, and historian specializing in race and discriminatory policy in the United States. He has authored several books including Stamped from the Beginning, How to Be an Antiracist, Antiracist Baby, and Chain of Ideas. Kendi has been recognized as a prominent commentator on racism, with interviews conducted by notable figures such as Stephen Colbert and Oprah Winfrey. The New York Times described him in 2019 as one of the country’s most in-demand commentators on race issues, and Time included him in its list of the 100 Most Influential People of 2020. In July 2020, he founded the Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University and has served as its director. His work has garnered significant recognition, including the MacArthur Fellows Program award in 2021. In January 2025, Howard University announced that Kendi would join its faculty to lead the newly established Institute for Advanced Study, which focuses on investigating the African diaspora. The following year, he was appointed as the inaugural Carter G. Woodson Endowed Chair in History at Howard University, in the College of Arts and Sciences.
