Ian David McShane, born on 29 September 1942, is an English actor known for his work in television and film. His notable television performances include the title role in the BBC series Lovejoy, which aired from 1986 and again from 1991 to 1994; Al Swearengen in the series Deadwood from 2004 to 2006 and its 2019 film continuation; and Mr. Wednesday in American Gods from 2017 to 2021. His portrayal of Al Swearengen in Deadwood earned him the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series Drama and a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
