Gina Joy Carano, born on April 16, 1982, is an American actress and former mixed martial artist. She competed in Elite Xtreme Combat and Strikeforce from 2006 to 2009, during which she achieved a record of seven wins and one loss. Her popularity in the sport led to her being referred to as the 'face of women's MMA', although she rejected this title. Carano was one of the first women to headline a major MMA event alongside Cris Cyborg during their 2009 Strikeforce bout. She retired from MMA competition after her first professional defeat to Cyborg. She returned to compete in 2026 for a bout against Ronda Rousey. Transitioning from martial arts to acting, Carano secured her first leading role in the action film Haywire in 2011. Her filmography includes appearances in Fast & Furious 6 in 2013 and Deadpool in 2016. She also portrayed the character Cara Dune in the first two seasons of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, which aired from 2019 to 2020. Carano was fired from the series in 2021. In 2024, she filed a lawsuit against Disney for wrongful termination, which was settled the following year.
