Ronda Jean Rousey, born on February 1, 1987, is an American actress, semi-retired professional wrestler, former judoka, and former mixed martial artist. She is recognized for her achievements in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and WWE. Rousey made history as the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in judo, securing bronze at the 2008 Summer Olympics. She began her MMA career with King of the Cage in 2011 before joining Strikeforce, where she became their last Women's Bantamweight Champion and held the title until the promotion's acquisition by the UFC. She was the first female fighter signed by UFC, participated in the promotion's inaugural women's bout, and became its first Women's Bantamweight Champion. Rousey was the first woman to appear in UFC pound-for-pound rankings and held the record for most UFC title defenses by a female until 2022. She retired from MMA in 2016 and was subsequently inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2018. Transitioning to professional wrestling, Rousey signed with WWE in 2018, debuted at WrestleMania 34, and won the Raw Women's Championship at that year's SummerSlam. She headlined WWE's first all-women's pay-per-view, Evolution, and continued to achieve success by winning multiple WWE women's titles, including the SmackDown Women's Championship twice, and unifying the Women's Tag Team Championships with Shayna Baszler. After leaving WWE in 2023, she began wrestling on the independent circuit. Rousey is notable as the only woman to have championed in both UFC and WWE and to headline pay-per-view events in both organizations.
