Geddy Lee Weinrib, born on July 29, 1953, is a Canadian musician primarily recognized for his role in the rock band Rush. He serves as the lead vocalist, bassist, and keyboardist for the band, having joined in September 1968 at the invitation of his childhood friend Alex Lifeson, replacing original bassist and frontman Jeff Jones. Lee is one of only two members to appear on every Rush album, contributing to the band until their initial dissolution in 2015 and their subsequent activities up to 2025. His solo project, titled My Favourite Headache, was released in 2000. Lee's distinctive style, technique, and skill on the bass guitar have influenced numerous prominent rock musicians including Cliff Burton, Steve Harris, John Myung, Les Claypool, Steve Di Giorgio, and Tim Commerford. Along with Lifeson and Neil Peart, Lee was honored as an Officer of the Order of Canada on May 9, 1996, marking the first time a rock band received this recognition. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 after a 14-year period of eligibility. In addition to his accolades, Lee was ranked 13th on Hit Parader's list of the 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Vocalists of All Time in 2006, and in 2020, Rolling Stone ranked him 24th on their list of the 50 greatest bassists of all time.
