Phil Collins is an English musician and actor best known for his roles as the drummer and lead vocalist of the rock band Genesis, as well as his successful solo career. Born on January 30, 1951, in West London, he began playing drums at age five and also trained at a professional drama school. Early in his career, Collins performed as a child actor in notable stage roles, including playing the Artful Dodger in the West End production of Oliver!. He became a member of Genesis in 1970 as the band's drummer and took on lead vocals after Peter Gabriel's departure in 1975.
