Gary Numan: podcast appearances and interviews

Gary Anthony James Webb, known professionally as Gary Numan, is an English musician, songwriter, and producer. He began his music career as the frontman of the band Tubeway Army. Their second album, Replicas, released in 1979, reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and included the single Are 'Friends' Electric? which also achieved a number one spot in the UK. After the band disbanded, Numan released his debut solo album, The Pleasure Principle, later in 1979. This album also reached number one in the UK and featured the hit single Cars. Throughout his career, Numan has sold over ten million records and is recognized as a pioneer of electronic music. He is known for developing a distinctive sound characterized by heavy synthesizer hooks processed through guitar effects pedals, complemented by his unique voice and androgynous, 'android' persona. Despite a peak in commercial popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s, he has maintained a dedicated cult following. In recognition of his influence, Numan received the Ivor Novello Award, the Inspiration Award, from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors in 2017. Notably, he made his debut at the Glastonbury Festival in June 2025, further cementing his lasting presence in the music industry.
