Eric James McCormack, born on April 18, 1963, in Toronto, is a Canadian and American actor and singer. He began his acting career in high school plays and left Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1985 to join the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, where he spent five years performing in various stage productions. During the late 1990s, he lived in Los Angeles and appeared in minor television roles before making his feature film debut in 1992 with the science-fiction adventure film The Lost World. McCormack has appeared in multiple television series including Top Cops, Street Justice, Lonesome Dove: The Series, Townies, and Ally McBeal. He gained international recognition for his role as Will Truman in the NBC sitcom Will & Grace, which premiered in September 1998. His performance in the series earned him six Golden Globe nominations and four Emmy nominations, winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2001. Beyond television, McCormack made his Broadway debut in 2001 with The Music Man and starred in the 2005 film The Sisters. After Will & Grace concluded in 2006, he appeared in the New York production of Some Girl(s) and starred in the 2008 miniseries The Andromeda Strain. He also starred as Dr. Daniel Pierce in the TNT crime drama Perception for three seasons. Additional work includes voice acting for Pound Puppies and roles in productions such as Trust Me, Alien Trespass, and Departure. In 2023, he performed on Broadway in The Cottage.
