Eric William Dane was an American actor born on November 9, 1972, and he passed away on February 19, 2026. He appeared in multiple television roles during the 1990s and 2000s, including a recurring role as Jason Dean on the series Charmed. Dane is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Dr. Mark Sloan on the ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy, a role he played from 2006 to 2012 and again in 2021. His film work includes roles in X-Men: The Last Stand as Multiple Man, Marley & Me, Valentine's Day, Burlesque, and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. In addition to his television and film career, Dane played Captain Tom Chandler in the TNT series The Last Ship from 2014 to 2018, and Cal Jacobs in the HBO drama series Euphoria from 2019 until 2026. He also appeared as FBI Special Agent Nathan Blythe in the Amazon Prime Video crime series Countdown in 2025. In 2025, Dane announced that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a neurodegenerative disease, which resulted in his death at the age of 53.
