Emily Bell: podcast appearances and interviews

Emily Bell is a British academic and journalist serving as a Professor of Professional Practice at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and the founding director of the Tow Center for Digital Journalism. She assumed her role at the Tow Center in 2010 and is based in New York City. Bell has an extensive background in journalism, having worked for The Guardian and The Observer newspapers from 1990 onwards. She held various positions including Media Business Editor, deputy business editor, Business Editor, executive editor of the Media Guardian website, and editor-in-chief of Guardian Unlimited. Her career began on Big Farm Weekly and progressed through roles at Campaign magazine for the advertising industry. Bell's responsibilities expanded when she was appointed to the board of Guardian Newspapers Ltd and became director of digital content for Guardian News and Media in 2006. In 2013, she became a non-executive director of the Scott Trust, which owns the Guardian Media Group. Bell is also notable as an editor of the book 'Journalism After Snowden: The Future of the Free Press in the Surveillance State' published by Columbia University Press in 2017. Additionally, she is a member of the Information and Democracy Commission launched by Reporters Without Borders.
