Eddie Muller, born on October 15, 1958, in San Francisco, is an American author and a prominent figure in the preservation and promotion of film noir. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and initially worked as a bartender before pursuing a career in journalism, where he spent nearly twenty years. Muller authored several books on film noir, including his debut nonfiction work Grindhouse, published in 1996, and Dark City: The Lost World of Film Noir in 1998, which examined the classic period of American film noir. He also authored Dark City Dames, focusing on six actresses known for playing femme fatales. His research and passion led him to collaborate with the American Cinematheque to program a film festival dedicated to noir, resulting in the launch of the Noir City festival series that screens films across major U.S. cities. In 2005, Muller founded the Film Noir Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving and restoring noir films. As a host, Muller has appeared at the TCM Classic Film Festival and Classic Cruise during the 2010s and co-presented a lineup of film noir with Robert Osborne.
