Edward Robert Martin Jr. is an American lawyer and political figure who has served in various government roles. He was appointed as the interim United States attorney for the District of Columbia in January 2025, a position he held until May 2025. His appointment was notable for being unconventional, as he was the first in at least fifty years to assume this role without prior experience as a judge or federal prosecutor. Martin was appointed by President Donald Trump but faced challenges in securing Senate confirmation, leading to his withdrawal from the nomination and replacement by Jeanine Pirro.

In addition to his role as interim U.S. attorney, Martin announced in May 2025 that he would serve as the pardon attorney, overseeing reviews of outgoing presidential pardons and investigating alleged issues within the justice system. He was also appointed to lead the Weaponization Working Group within the Department of Justice. Politically, Martin has been involved in the Republican Party, serving as chair of the Missouri Republican Party from 2013 to 2015 and running as the Republican nominee for Missouri’s 3rd congressional district in 2010 and for Missouri attorney general in 2012, both of which he did not win.

Throughout his career, Martin has been associated with conservative activism and has been involved in controversial legal and political statements. His past activities include organizing rallies and advocating for January 6 defendants, and he has publicly dismissed claims of Russian election interference and allegations concerning the 2020 presidential election as hoaxes.
