Dwight David Howard II, born December 8, 1985, is an American former professional basketball player known for his athletic ability and dominance on the court. Nicknamed Superman, he played the center position and achieved numerous career accolades, including being an NBA champion, eight-time All-Star, eight-time All-NBA Team honoree, five-time All-Defensive Team member, and three-time Defensive Player of the Year. Howard spent his high school career at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy and opted to forego college to enter the 2004 NBA draft. He was selected first overall by the Orlando Magic, where he set several franchise and league records and led the team to the 2009 NBA Finals. After eight seasons with Orlando, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2012 and had three separate one-year stints with the team, winning an NBA championship in 2020. Throughout his career, he also played for the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, and Philadelphia 76ers. Following the 2021–22 NBA season, Howard moved overseas to sign with the Taoyuan Leopards of the T1 League. During his tenure there, he was named a T1 All-Star. Howard has been recognized for his contributions to basketball with elections to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2025, both as an individual player and as a member of the Redeem Team.
